What Is The Cosmelan Peel Treatment?

The Cosmelan Peel treatment is a medically-approved depigmentation treatment designed to work on stubborn pigmentation like melasma, PIH, tanning, and age spots. The treatment consists of 2 phases – in-clinic and at-home – where the combined procedure corrects existing pigmentation and regulates melanin production, to prevent new pigmentation. It gives you an even skin tone and improves texture. It is 100% safe and delivers real, lasting results.

How Does A Cosmelan Peel Treatment Work?

Cosmelan Peel is a dual-action depigmentation process, that combines correction and regulation. This 2-phase treatment includes the correction phase, designed to target and clear existing deep pigmentation actively. The process accelerates skin renewal and removes excess melanin. Meanwhile, the regulation phase works to control the melanin production at the source by inhibiting overactive tyrosinase and minimising excessive pigment formation. Tyrosinase is the enzyme that plays a key role in melanin production. It prevents the formation of new pigmentation and helps maintain clear skin.

The dual-action procedure offers immediate improvement in skin tone, along with sustained results, while preventing recurrence.

What Is The Composition Of Cosmelan Peel?

The following table contains information about the active ingredients in Cosmelan Peel, both in-clinic and at-home kits.

Ingredient What It Does
Phytic Acid Helps fade dark spots by blocking melanin production and gently exfoliating skin.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) Calms the skin, reduces redness, and helps stop pigment from spreading.
Salicylic Acid Clears out pores and removes dead skin cells to smooth the skin.
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate A stable form of Vitamin C that brightens skin and protects it from damage.
Alpha-Arbutin Lightens dark spots by slowing down melanin production.
Bisabolol Soothes irritated skin and helps with healing.
Kojic Acid Fades pigmentation and evens out skin tone.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Brightens skin and helps repair damage.
Citric Acid Gently exfoliates and improves skin texture.
Allantoin Softens and calms the skin, helping it recover.

Benefits Of Cosmelan Peel

Cosmelan Peel primarily works for stubborn pigmentation, including the most challenging type, melasma, and sunspots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. People who are looking for an effective, non-invasive solution for skin brightening can also benefit from this treatment. Here are some additional benefits of Cosmelan Peel:

Reduces Hyperpigmentation

This highly advanced depigmentation treatment targets excess melanin and helps fade stubborn pigmentation that results from acne, hormonal changes, or excessive sun exposure.

Evens Skin Tone

It reduces uneven melanin distribution giving you a uniform complexion. The peel is effective in reducing pigmentation in the deeper layers of the skin, brightening your complexion.

Minimises Open Pores

Cosmelan Peel contains exfoliating ingredients that remove dead skin cells and other buildup in the pores, reducing their appearance. They also regulate sebum production and help boost collagen, which improves skin texture.

Boosts Radiance

After the peeling phase, you will notice healthy skin free of dullness and pigmentation. You can enjoy a naturally radiant and glowing complexion.

Fades Acne Marks

The Cosmelan Peel also lightens post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from acne, sun exposure, and other blemishes, giving you a flawless, even-toned face.

Controls Oiliness

The treatment also helps regulate sebum production, especially for those with oily and combination skin types.

Suitable For All Skin Types

This gentle yet effective peel works on all skin types, including sensitive skin. Further, as a dermatologist is involved in the entire process, you can be assured of safety and comfort.

Minimal Discomfort & Downtime

Even though the peel penetrates the skin to address deep-seated pigmentation, the peeling and redness are easily manageable. Clients can resume their routine within days.

Long-Lasting Results

You will notice visible results within 7-10 days, and with proper aftercare, they last for months.

Cosmelan Peel Treatment Procedure At Oliva Clinics

When you visit us for a consultation, our dermatologist will thoroughly analyse your skin, the type, severity, and the underlying cause of your pigmentation, along with your genetic and medical history. This provides them with a holistic understanding of your skin condition, enabling them to design the most suitable plan for you.

The Cosmelan Peel treatment is a multi-phase procedure, an in-clinic session followed by at-home treatment, under the supervision of your dermatologist to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Phase 1: In-clinic Application

Our experienced dermatologists perform this session.

  1. Our medical team thoroughly cleanses your skin using a degreasing solution, removing oils, buildup, and product. This ensures that the Cosmelan-1 mask penetrates the skin easily.
  2. Then, they apply a uniform layer of the Cosmelan-1 mask to the face, avoiding sensitive areas such as the eyes and the lips. The active ingredients in the mask target the stubborn melanin deposits.
  3. The mask stays on for at least 10 hours. For optimal results, the medical team schedules appointment either in the morning or late evening. This makes it easy to keep the peel on for 10 hours at a stretch.
  4. Our dermatologist will instruct you on how to wash off the peel. If you experience any irritation, itching, or burning, which is rare, speak to the doctor and wash it off immediately.

After this, the 2nd phase – the at-home phase begins:

Phase 2: At-home Maintenance (Continuous Depigmentation)

This is a critical phase for consolidating the results of the in-clinic session and preventing pigmentation from recurring, while ensuring skin recovery.

Day 1 & 2 after the in-clinic session:

Apply Melan Recovery cream and sunscreen.Β

Day 3 to Day 9:

48 hours after you remove the Cosmelan-1 mask, you apply a pea-sized amount of Cosmelan-2 twice a day. Once it is absorbed, after approximately 2 mins, apply the Melan Recovery cream and sunscreen. Do this twice a day. (AM & PM)

Day 10 to Day 30:

The dermatologist will assess your skin, and based on the progress your skin is making, recommend the application of Cosmelan-2. You will continue using it twice a day or reduce it to once a day. You should continue applying the Melan Recovery cream and sunscreen.

NOTE:

Here is the order you must follow for the home care kit

Apply a thin layer, a pea-sized amount, of the Cosmelan-2 and wait for 10 mins. Once it is absorbed, apply the Melan Recovery cream. Wait till it is dry and then apply sunscreen.

Phase 3: Pigmentation Regulation

Repeat the same process for a month. Stay in touch with your dermatologist and update them about any changes you may notice on your skin.

Phase 4: Reappearance Control

In this phase, you will follow the same application process once a day.

Maintenance Phase:

Once this treatment cycle is complete, you will notice a visible reduction in your pigmentation. You will then enter the maintenance phase where you will continue using the Cosmelan-2 cream, typically once a day, followed by strict sun protection. This prevents the occurrence of new pigmentation. Your dermatologist may also recommend other treatments and skincare products that enhance and sustain the results.

Recovery And Downtime: What To Expect

It is normal to experience mild redness and peeling a few days after the treatment as the skin renews itself. This can last for 10-15 days. It is critical to apply the Melan Recovery Cream along with the other prescribed aftercare to soothe your skin and reduce irritation. You must avoid makeup for 7 days and apply sunscreen without fail. It is essential to reapply every 2 hours. Despite these mild side effects, you can return to your routine within 48 hours.

You will notice a progressive lightening of dark spots, resulting in an even-toned, radiant complexion. There will be long-term improvement with continued home care and sun protection.

Frequently Asked Questions On Cosmelan Peel Treatment

Anyone with melasma, stubborn pigmentation and dark spots due to sun damage, and those who wish to get even-toned skin can benefit from Cosmelan Peel.

Our dermatologists do not recommend Cosmelan Peel to pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with active skin infections, and those who are allergic to specific ingredients in the peel.

You would need one in-clinic session to see visible results and a maintenance session a few months later, only if necessary. The Cosmelan Peel treatment consists of two phases: the first phase is an in-clinic session, and the second phase involves home care. Following your doctor’s instructions during the 2nd phase is crucial.

While this varies for every individual, most clients will start noticing results in 2 weeks. They can achieve optimal results in approximately one month with diligent home care.

With proper aftercare, the results of Cosmelan Peel can last up to a year and in some cases even longer. Make sure you are in touch with your dermatologist and get regular follow ups for lasting results.

Both Cosmelan and Dermamelan peels are effective in treating stubborn pigmentation. Dermatologists analyse the severity of your pigmentation and recommend what works best for you.

While both help with pigmentation, Cosmelan Peel is a stronger, medical-grade peel designed for stubborn, deep pigmentation like melasma. Melanage is gentler and more suitable for mild discolouration and sensitive skin, with less downtime. Cosmelan provides lasting results but requires diligent post-treatment care.

Cosmelan Peel is a strong, medical formulation that works best for melasma and deep pigmentation. It requires a long downtime and offers visible results. VI peel, on the other hand, is a medium-depth peel that helps reduce acne, fine lines, and mild discolouration of the skin.

Cosmelan Peel treatment is painless, and you may experience mild tingling or a warm sensation in the area. It subsides quickly as you apply the Melan recovery cream.
