Are body contouring treatments surgical?

Are body contouring treatments surgical? (Body Contouring)While surgical body contouring like “tummy tuck” (abdominoplasty) or “breast reduction” (liposuction) have been the only methods available to treat stubborn areas of body fat or loose skin, quite a few non-surgical options have come into the market in recent times.
  • Cryolipolysis treatments use reducing temperatures at target areas of the body to freeze and destroy fat cells.
  • Radiofrequency treatments use radiofrequency or heat energy to destroy fat cells and induce collagen to tighten skin in target areas.
  • Ultrasound therapies use ultrasound to break down fat cells.
  • Injection lipolysis involves injecting chemicals which can destroy fat cells into target pockets of fat like double chin.
  • Laser lipolysis options are also available.
All these treatments except injection lipolysis use different sizes of probes to hand-deliver the required energy into the intended body part like abdomen, thighs, neck or face. They can remove stubborn pockets of fat and help contour the body to your desired shape. However, such treatments work best when combined with required dietary measures and exercise to sustain weight loss. They may require maintenance sessions at certain gaps. They are an effective and safe alternative to people who donot want to undergo surgical correction while avoiding all the potential side effects of invasive methods like surgery.
