What could be causing these dark patches on my cheeks, and how can I tell if it’s melasma or just sun spots?

If you notice large and irregular brown-to-grey patches on the skin, often triggered by hormones or sun exposure, it is melasma. Sun spots are usually well-defined, isolated brown spots on the skin from UV damage. Consult a dermatologist who will use a dermoscopy or Wood’s lamp to assess the pigment depth and pattern, which will help them diagnose the condition accurately.
