My skin is sunburnt and dark. Is there any skin whitening treatment that will help me get a fair complexion, 5-6 shades lighter than my skin tone?
For tanned and sunburnt skin, the first thing to do would be starting to use a sunscreen with SPF 30-50 daily and avoiding direct sun exposure. Skin Lightening treatments include topical lightening agents, chemical peels, laser toning and glutathione therapy. Creams containing lightening agents like Vitamin C, glycolic acid, kojic acid etc can be started first. Next step would be using chemical peels containing fruit acids like glycolic acid, kojic acid, phenol, trichloroacetic acid, lactic acid etc. for exfoliating the upper damaged layer and lightening the dark skin. Multiple sessions may be needed. Laser toning is done to get rid of the deeper pigmentation that do not respond to peels or topicals. It can also help rejuvenate the skin and provide mild anti aging results. However, these treatments can get your natural complexion back, but not cause whitening beyond that. Glutathione is a newer therapy available as injections, tablets, creams etc. it can help whiten skin beyond the natural tone, but the results are unpredictable and it does not work for everyone. Consult a dermatologist to know what treatment would be suitable for you.
