I am only 28 years old but I have dark circles around my eyes. They make me look very old and tired all the time. I don’t want to cover them up with make up because it is not long-term solution. Are there any better treatments?

Dark circle are an almost universal concern as everybody faces them at sometime in their lives. Dark circles can have a lot of causes, hence treating them might be difficult. The most common cause in irregular vascularity i.e., problems in blood flow which can be genetic or occur due to bad lifestyle habits like too much stress, inadequate sleep, or regular smoking. So, the first step to take is to correct your lifestyle and make sure you get enough sleep and hydration. You can use cucumber slices, teabags etc. to improve the blood flow or your doctor may prescribe you vitamin K based products. In case there is actual pigmentation as with sunexposure (tan) or obesity (acanthosis nigricans), undereye creams with lightening agents and retinol might be suggested; chemical peeling can give good and fast results as well. Sometimes there may be volume loss around the eyes which can be genetic or age related where the eye socket seems sunken inside and there is a tear trough visible. Such cases need injectable treatments like fillers or surgeries like blepharoplasty for results as topical treatments have no effect on volume loss.
