I would like to know what are the different laser treatments for skin.

Different laser treatments for skin target separate components of the skin to give targeted results in many conditions.

Most commonly laser is used for hair reduction. It involves diode, alexandrite and/or Nd:YAG lasers to target the pigment in hair roots and inhibit hair growth. Over time and multiple sessions, this can give a sustained and long term reduction in face or body hair density and thickness, eliminating the need for shaving/threading/waxing regularly.

Lasers are also commonly used for rejuvenating the skin and removing pigmentation in the form of laser toning or Q-switched laser. The most common technology used is Nd:YAG laser. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a technology using broad spectrum lights to give similar benefits, though results are inferior to lasers. These treatments can be versatile, ranging from tan removal to treating post acne marks, scars, freckles etc. and even tattoo removal.

Skin resurfacing and treatment of scars is also a common indication of laser. Most commonly used are Erbium based lasers and CO2 lasers. They can be used to fully ablate and destroy scars or in the fractional mode to improve skin texture by controlled micro heating. They can also treat stretch marks. Multiple sessions are usually required.
